Quick answers about booking, payments and listing your caravan.
Booking
How do I book a caravan?
Search for a town or park, pick your dates on the calendar, and press Book now. The owner confirms within 24 hours, and you’re not charged unless they accept.
Why does the owner need to accept?
Many owners also let their caravan through other sites and their own contacts, so they check the dates are really free. We email and text them straight away and they have 24 hours to accept. Your payment is held, not taken, and if they don't accept in time it's released in full.
Is the price I see the price I pay?
Yes. Before you pay, we show the nightly price, the cleaning fee and the VanHols service fee, plus the total. Some parks charge for leisure passes; the listing will tell you.
Can I pay a deposit?
For stays more than 8 weeks away you can pay a £50 deposit (example) and the rest is taken 8 weeks before check-in.
Can I bring my dog?
Use the Dog friendly filter, or add dogs under Who when you search. Owners say how many dogs are allowed.
Can we bring children?
Most caravans welcome children. Use the Children welcome filter, or add children under Who and we'll hide adults-only caravans.
Payments & refunds
How can I pay?
By card, Apple Pay, Google Pay or bank transfer. Whichever you choose, we hold the money and only pay the owner after you check in.
Is my payment safe?
Payments are processed by a secure payment provider and we only pay the owner after you check in.
How do I cancel?
Go to Trips, choose the booking, and cancel. See our Cancellation & Refund Policy for what you get back.
What if the caravan isn't as described?
Tell us within 24 hours of check-in with photos. The owner gets the chance to put it right quickly. If they can't, we'll help you rebook or refund you for the affected nights.
What if the caravan isn't clean?
We don't expect spotless, and an older caravan that's clean is fine. It only fails if it's genuinely dirty: previous guests' rubbish or food left, unwashed bedding or towels, a dirty toilet, shower or kitchen, or visible mould. Send us photos within 24 hours of check-in. The owner can send a cleaner; if they can't fix it, we'll help you rebook or refund the affected nights.
Owners
How much does it cost to list?
Nothing. It's free to list and free when a guest books. Guests pay a VanHols service fee on top of your price; you keep 100% of what you set.
When do I get paid?
About 24 hours after your guest checks in, straight to your bank, once the guest's 24-hour window for reporting a problem has closed. Guests pay in full when they request, so there's nothing to chase. If a refund or chargeback happens after you've been paid, VanHols (through our payment provider, Stripe) may deduct that amount from your future payouts.
Do I need a profile photo?
No, it's optional. Guests feel safer booking when they can see who they're dealing with, and listings with a friendly owner photo tend to get more enquiries. Use a clear, recent photo of your face, with no logos, text or group shots. If you don't add one, you choose one of your caravan photos to use as your profile picture instead (the first photo unless you pick another). You can change it any time from your dashboard.
My area isn't in the list – what do I do?
Enter your park's postcode in the first step of List your caravan. We find it on the map and put you in the nearest VanHols area. If there isn't one within 25 miles, we create a new area for you, named after your town or village. Or start typing your park name: if it's one of our park guides, pick the suggestion and we fill in the postcode, area and map for you. Any park name is fine, even if it isn't in our list. You can also choose your area from the list by hand. If postcode lookup isn't working, just choose the nearest area from the list. Guests only ever see your park name and area, never your postcode.
My caravan looks dated – can anything be done?
Yes. Our sponsor Static Caravan Kitchen Painters refresh dated caravan interiors by repairing and painting tired wood-effect units, peeling vinyl wrap, laminate and veneer: kitchens, living rooms, bedrooms, bathrooms, furniture and internal doors. It is much cheaper and quicker than replacing units, and fresher rooms make for brighter listing photos. Send photos or your listing link from the caravan makeover page and Jack will reply with a quote. It is optional and makes no difference to your listing.
I have more than one caravan – do I need separate accounts?
No. All your caravans go under one owner account and one owner profile. Your profile photo, name and About you are shared by all of them, and you only verify your photo ID once. Each caravan gets its own listing with its own park and postcode, photos, calendar, price, cleaning fee and house rules, and you send proof of ownership for each one. To add one, press Add another caravan on your dashboard: the form skips the About you step and uses your existing profile. Booking requests on your dashboard show which caravan they're for, and guests see all your caravans on your owner profile. It's still free, however many caravans you list.
Can guests who stayed before I joined VanHols review me?
No. To keep every review genuine, only guests who book and stay through VanHols can leave a review, after their stay. Each one is labelled Verified VanHols stay. You can't edit, delete or pay for reviews. See the review rules in our Owner Terms.
Can I still use my caravan?
Yes. Close any dates on your calendar and guests can't book them.
Does my park allow letting?
Most do, but check your licence agreement. Our Owner Terms explain what you need.
How clean does my caravan need to be?
Clean, not spotless. Guests can complain if they find previous guests' rubbish or food, unwashed bedding or towels, a dirty toilet, shower or kitchen, or visible mould. Low cleanliness ratings push your caravan down the search results, and repeated valid complaints can lead to suspension. Our cleaners directory can help with changeovers.
Ask the VanHols help chat (bottom-right). For a question about a booking, message your owner from Trips (owners: message your guest from the Dashboard). To report a scam, a refund dispute or a safety issue, use Report a problem.
